3 Tub Surrounds
You get three for one today! This is a group entry showing three different tiled tub surrounds.
The left photo is a 13″ x 13″ Porcelain Faux Stone installation in a pinwheel layout. The pinwheel is a nice effect that adds interest. It does complicate the layout a bit. As you move over each course the next tile raises up the distance of the small tile. In this case 1″ as you go from one edge of the tile installation to the other you have a difference of 10″. You must start the first course just right to avoid having a “sliver tile” (a very skinny cut tile, most unattractive). Still it is a different layout that you don’t see very often. This installation also has a two compartment recessed shelf.
The middle photo is a handmade 6″ x 6″ ceramic tile installation with a mosaic glass stripe. If you zoom in on this photo you will see how irregular these hand made tiles are. They also have a very unique “crackle” finish that needed to be sealed after it stopped cracking. Do you remember Snap, Crackle, Pop? The tile made crackling sounds for a day or so while the thinset was drying. Very interesting tile.
The right photo is also handmade tiles, this time they are a mixture of off white 3″ x 6″ ceramic “seconds” from Pratt and Larson in a staggered or subway pattern. These are beautiful tiles. The accent tiles are also Pratt & Larson. This installation has a single compartment recessed shelf. Photo shown prior to grout.
